Through Uppsala City’s project Stadens Galleri (The City’s Gallery), I got to create an artwork for an electrical cabinet in the middle of everyday life. The commission was open: I interpreted the site freely, and chose to let the building’s own history become the motif.
Two horses, four legs each, eight together – like Sleipner, Odin’s horse, who gave the housing cooperative its name. Porcelain cups for Lindvalls, which was located around the corner for many years. A memory of the scent of freshly brewed coffee. A summer sky to carry with you even on a grey November day. And at the children’s eye level, cats and a cow keeping the horses company.
It was such a joyful commission and exactly how I think art should get to exist: on the way to work, on the walk with the dog, on the way home from daycare.
Want to see it up close? The cabinet stands at Samaritergränd 1 in Uppsala.
